What does pregnancy photography cost?
How much it costs for pregnancy photography depends very much on the photographer you choose and which photography packages you go for. Most pregnancy photographers offer different packages with varying amounts of time, number of images, and products.
It’s not uncommon for the cost to be split into two parts, with the first part covering the shoot itself and the second part covering the images and products you want. The images and products you choose are what will have the biggest impact on the price.

Pregnancy photography price
A basic package with 1-2 hours of photography and a certain number of digital images is usually around NOK 3.000-6.000. More comprehensive packages with albums, canvases, longer shoots etc. can quickly reach NOK 10.000-15.000 or more.
It’s a good idea to check what’s included in the price in advance. Remember to look at the photographer’s style and quality, not just the price.
Price for the photo shoot itself
The photo shoot itself usually costs between NOK 1.500 and NOK 3.000. This usually covers 1-2 hours of photography, and many also offer the loan of maternity outfits for the photos.
A surcharge is usually added to the price if you want to take photos in the evening or at the weekend.
Image products
The price of the products varies depending on which products you want. It’s difficult to give exact prices as it all depends on size, image quality, frames and other materials.
Digital files
Most photographers can create a digital image gallery where you can access a selection of pre-edited, high-resolution images. If you only want a handful of images, the cost usually varies between NOK 500-1.000 per image. Many also offer different packages that can consist of 5, 10 and 20 images, where you get discounted prices.Photo albums
An album consisting of 10-15 pages can cost anywhere from NOK 2.000 to NOK 18.000. A standard album of 10 pages with photos in the size 25×25 cm typically costs from NOK 3.000 to NOK 6.000.Print on photo paper
Prices for finished printed photos without frames usually cost between NOK 500-2.000 per piece.Finished framed photos
These products are usually much more expensive. Here you get a number of options in terms of image, frame and glass quality. A pre-framed picture in the size 30x40cm usually costs from around NOK 3.000 to NOK 5.000.Package solutions
Many photographers offer various package solutions that include photography, x number of digital high-resolution image files and various image products. The prices of these can vary between anything from NOK 5.000-30.000.
What affects the price?
- The photographer’s experience and expertise. More experienced and sought-after photographers usually command higher prices due to greater demand.
- Including time for the shoot. The longer the shoot, the higher the price. If you want outdoor shots at a selected location, you also need to factor in travel costs for the photographer.
- The number of images included and whether they are delivered digitally, in albums, on canvas, etc. More images and products mean a higher price.
- Whether it is a photo shoot of the pregnant woman only, or whether her partner and any siblings are included. A larger photo shoot with more people will also increase the price.
- Additional products such as digital retouching of the images, special albums or large format prints can result in a higher total price.

When is the best time to take pregnancy photos?
The most common time to take pregnancy photos is around week 28-34 of pregnancy. At this stage, the belly is round and the woman tends to have a little more energy than towards the end of the pregnancy. But all pregnancies are unique. Feel free to ask the photographer for advice based on your situation and wishes. Some people prefer to take photos early in the pregnancy, others at the very end to immortalize the big belly. The most important thing is that you feel good and comfortable. A skilled photographer will be able to find good angles all the way from early to late pregnancy.
How long does pregnancy photography take?
The length of a maternity photo shoot can vary slightly, but most assignments last for 1-2 hours. This usually allows enough time to get a good variety of shots, changing outfits if desired, and breaks if needed. If you’re tired and have less energy at the end of your pregnancy, a session of 1-1.5 hours may be appropriate, while ladies with more energy can easily manage 2 hours.
Talk to the photographer in advance about how much time is reasonable to set aside based on your wishes and needs.

What is important to think about before the pregnancy photo shoot?
- Choose the right outfit that accentuates your belly and that you feel good and comfortable in. Soft, close-fitting garments are good, preferably in neutral colors. Avoid patterned and large, loose-fitting clothes.
- Set aside plenty of time for the photo shoot so you don’t have to stress and be in a hurry. This will create a better atmosphere.
- Feel free to bring an extra change of clothes and props if you want variety in the photos, such as different tops, fabrics/blankets, flower garlands, etc.
- Discuss with the photographer in advance if you want photos in just underwear/nude shots, so you’re in agreement.
- Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to the photo shoot – it makes your skin more beautiful and supple.
Good tips for a successful pregnancy photo shoot:
- Choose a photographer with whom you have good chemistry and feel confident. This results in the best and most relaxed images.
- Don’t be afraid to come up with your own suggestions and ideas. A good photographer likes creative input!
- Try to schedule the shoot for a time of day when you have the most energy and feel good.
- Dare to show your full range of emotions – play, dance, laugh, be sensual. It gives a nice variation in expression and creates closeness.
- Be proud of your belly and your body. You’re creating a new life and carrying a baby – it’s strong and beautiful. Let your self-confidence shine!
- Take photos with your partner and children/siblings if you like. It creates beautiful family photos and captures a very special time in their lives.

What happens after the photos are taken?
Once the shoot is over, the photographer will start work on selecting, editing and retouching the best images. This usually takes anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks.
You’ll then be sent an online gallery with all your images, a delivery on a memory stick, or physical copies if that’s part of your image package. It’s very common for the photographer to also offer additional products such as albums, canvases, cups, etc.
Feel free to ask the photographer in advance what kind of products he/she can supply, so that you can think about what you want from the beautiful images.
